The content is learnable by anyone — the job is building the habits underneath it without grinding the wonder out.

High school science quietly assumes three habits nobody formally teaches: keeping units attached to numbers, reading and drawing graphs honestly, and treating a wrong prediction as information instead of failure.
Students who arrive in ninth grade with those habits find chemistry and physics reasonable. Students without them find those courses mysterious — and blame themselves. Grades 5–8 are when the habits are cheap to build.
A number without a unit is a rumor. We keep them attached from day one, and half of future chemistry gets easier for free.
Axes, scales, trends — reading and drawing graphs honestly is the most transferable skill in all of school science.
Observe, guess, test, revise. Applied to homework, it's science. Applied to everything else, it's how confident students think.
Middle schoolers are the best audience in science — endlessly curious, easily discouraged. The teaching has to respect both.
Sessions run on "what do you think happens if…" — because a student who predicted something cares about the answer.
Confidence at this age is built from visible progress. We keep score of what's been mastered, and students see the list grow.
Everything points forward: the habits we build are exactly the ones high school biology, chemistry and physics will assume.

The other reason families call: a student who’s decided science "isn’t for them" at eleven. That belief is very fixable at this age, and much harder at sixteen.
The current class first — earth, life or physical science — plus the transferable skills underneath: reading a graph honestly, keeping units, writing up what happened.
